03 Dez S1 Sprint Start
S1 Sprint 16 KM
An easy easy start, along an easy path and a dirt road that demands you to run. Only after two kilometers, this placid path climbs on the slopes of Mount Ter covering in less than a km 165 meters of difference in altitude. In this section it is very important to pay close attention to the signs, as if you do not follow the tapes insight, but you are distracted by following the path, you are likely to get lost. If you don’t see any signs, always go back to your steps, until the last one you found. This is an always valid rule. A series of narrow and not very crowded, but very fascinating paths lead to the ancient built-up area of the Coisce / Kohišče houses. On your left, you will see the Dolina del Principe, where in may the Kohišče March arrives, a beautiful event with a spring picnic. We then descend towards the Grotta del Mitreo, already frequented from the Neolithic and adapted in Roman times to a place of worship of the god Mitra. Mithraism is a religion of Iranian origin and is linked to the figure of a young man who sacrifices a bull in honor of the Sun-god: this scene is represented in two limestone reliefs found inside the cave, together with a large number of coins and lamps left by the faithful as votive offerings. No coincidence that this place of worship is located near the springs of the river Timavo.
From the cave, we continue along a very steep path towards the Foci del Timavo. Pay attention and proceed with caution. Arrived at the road crossing, follow the race indications crossing the pedestrian crossing and paying attention to the transit of the vehicles. Here the Timavo awaits, a subterranean river divinized in Roman times at Diomede and Saturn, about which it is also hypothesized the presence of a temple at the present church of S. Giovanni in Tuba.
