Race Enrollment

JANUARY 5, 2025

The S1 Night maintains its adventurous spirit in the classic 80 km distance of the Corsa della Bora, but is completely renewed with an updated route and an organized start in two groups. This modification offers participants the flexibility to take on the race at a more relaxed pace, with a maximum time of 18 hours. The S1 Explorer Ultra, with its 78.1 km and a positive elevation gain of 2310 meters, largely follows the route of the S1 Anniversary Ultra. However, this new version starts from the attractive Barcola waterfront, a short distance from the heart of Trieste, shortening the initial 20 km path of the S1 Anniversary Ultra. In addition to the new route, logistics have been optimized: despite being a linear race, with start and finish points in different locations, the shuttle to the starting point takes only 10 minutes, making access to the start almost immediate, as in a loop race.

The S1 Explorer Ultra starts from the Trieste waterfront, leading participants through the alleys and streets of the city towards the Carso. From here, the route winds through the vineyards, explores the extraordinary karst caves, and crosses the historic galleries of the First World War, immersing runners in a unique journey through nature and history.

The route combines views ranging from the sea to the Julian Alps and the Julian Pre-Alps, presenting a landscape variety that alternates the majesty of nature with moments of profound historical reflection. Ultrarunners and hikers will have the opportunity to explore the emblematic places of the Great War, advancing through trenches, corridors, and casemates along the Isonzo front, thus testifying to the historical and landscape value of the territory.

This route is a summary of some of the most significant paths of the Italian and Slovenian Karst, such as The Walk of Peace, the Alpe Adria Trail, the Via Alpina, and, of course, Sentiero 1. The S1 Explorer Ultra is designed to be enjoyable both running and walking. Thanks to a fluid and technically not overly demanding path, the experience remains dynamic and stimulating, with continuous scenery changes ranging from views of the Gulf to snow-capped mountains, crossing historical trails, natural caves, and war galleries.

A mix of white roads, never monotonous or repetitive, always with views of the sea or mountains, together with single-track paths. Changes in pace, type of terrain, and scenery make the race always diversified and interesting, never monotonous, always without technically difficult or exposed stretches.

The final stretch crosses the Duino Cliffs Nature Reserve, following the spectacular Rilke Trail, one of the most beautiful and panoramic paths in the entire Upper Adriatic, as well as the most enchanting panoramic point on the Gulf of Trieste. The finish, celebrated in style for the tenth anniversary, offers a breathtaking view of the gulf and the finish line directly from the wonderful cliffs of the Rilke Trail. Subsequently, the descent brings participants to sea level, where they will cut the finish line at water level.
