Press Release

This afternoon, Sunday 8 January, a competitor in the S1 Half 21 km race suffered a sudden illness and unfortunately died later at the hospital in Udine. The 57-year-old athlete was standing on a flat stretch of beach near the finish line when he collapsed on the ground right in front of the operators manning the area and was found to be in cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation by bystanders began immediately, which was then continued by two Alpine Rescue teams (12 operators including two doctors and two nurses).

Initially, defibrillators were used, then the man underwent advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was then transported by helicopter, together with the medical team, to the hospital in Udine for continued treatment, unfortunately without success. The organisation is close to the family, in particular to the man's wife, who was racing alongside him.
