The Weather at Trieste in January

The Karst and La Corsa della Bora, in all weathers, are imbued with an irresistible charm. On cloudy days, the grey immensity of the sky turns the race into a journey shrouded in mystery, with the mildness of winter providing a unique experience. The clean air, impregnated with the smell of undergrowth, and the aura of mysticism of the Karst make every moment unforgettable.
When the sun shines, the region comes alive in a vivid array of colours. Winter is forgotten and La Corsa della Bora looks more like an unexpected spring day: short sleeves in the middle hours, snow-capped mountains in the background, blue sea in front. When the cold weather sets in, the Karst becomes even clearer, with the rock formations standing out against the winter clarity.
Each climate reveals a new face of the Karst. Every edition is a different experience.
Cold and dry
o hot and humid?
Two winds do battle in Trieste. The Boracold, dry, clear skies, bright colours and incredible views towards the mountains overlooking the Gulf. Lo SiroccoWarm, humid, higher temperatures but overcast skies.
Whether the Bora or the Sirocco wins, it will always be a unique beauty contest.
Like dress?
During the race you might feel like staying in short sleeves - but always wear a thermal layer and long trousers. Here the climate is variable: from sunny to windy in just a few kilometres.
Beautiful sunsets over a blue sea or the contrast of leaden clouds over an oil-coloured sea? Either way, the best landscape in which to run.
Never underestimate variability
Here the icy northern winds meet the warm Adriatic winds. A mix that provides a mild climate on mountain terrain - but the Bora can surprise at any time.

An edition of suspense!
It could have been the first edition under snow - and instead the weather was sunny.
2026 taught us that in Trieste, weather forecasts simply do not exist. We prepared ourselves for frost: 200 km/h winds with snow and ice, alternative routes already in place. Two days before, the forecast changes: perfect sunshine and Bora. The day before it starts raining and the temperature rises.
We don't understand anything anymore! Bora wants to fool us!
During the night, the Bora rises and the result? A perfect sunny day, not even too cold.
In short, don't ask us what the weather is like in Trieste: you could leave in the sun and arrive with snowflakes. If variability is not your thing, you can register with the option to cancel up to 72 hours before the race... but you'll miss out on some of the fun!
It could have been snow, but instead perfect sunshine
A textbook year.
When asked how to prepare for the race, we always answer: you have to be ready for anything. Here the sea mitigates, it is true, but winter still knows how to surprise.
First sunny and brisk day, morning air around 8 degrees and, under the afternoon sun, up to 12. During the night, the sirocco entered: overcast skies and temperatures rising slightly. Sunday woke us up with clouds and 12 degrees, which became 14 on the coast. Around eleven o'clock, while along the coast it remained grey, it started snowing in Monrupinolight snow that doesn't stick, about 3 degrees. Then around five in the afternoon, rain to close the day.
In practice: twenty-four hours of sunshine, eight of clouds, ten minutes of snow, two hours of rain.
The Corsa della Bora is also this: going from the mountains to the sea in one weekend, and finding a different way to tell the story with your legs each time.

The universal flood. Epic Edition!
The hottest and wettest day in years. Torrential rain and temperatures between 12 and 14 degrees. An epic edition - like a race in the autumn rain. Those who were there will not forget it.
No sun, no rain. And hot.
A muffled atmosphere. The sky - an immense sea of grey - turned La Corsa della Bora into a journey through a mystical landscape. The mild climate and clean air, enriched by the smell of undergrowth, created a unique running experience. The mystery of the Karst, amplified by the grey sky, made every moment unforgettable.
The wild nature of the Karst and the surreal atmosphere made the 2023 edition an event of considerable emotional and physical intensity for all participants.
A bit of everything’
Saturday was a beautiful, warm day: sunshine, clear skies, pleasant afternoon in the open air at PortoPiccolo with the arrivals of the ipertrail. Sunday morning cloudy, towards evening temperatures rising. At the end of the race, some rain.
Bora at 130 km/h!
Edition in “Orange Zone”, still in COVID emergency. Low temperatures, zero to 6 degrees, with 130 km/h wind and perceived temperature below zero. However, the Bora blows away the rain: clear skies and unforgettable views - if you can stand upright.
