This is the perfect race if you want to experience the event calmly and with a smile: start quietly, let the first few minutes pass you by and don't let the initial enthusiasm fool you. The key is enjoying the route without chasing performance: keep a pace that allows you to talk, manage the wind and exposure well, and carry with you the idea that today the goal is to arrive with energy and the desire to do it again.

PortoPiccolo: The Ascent from the White Cliffs

From Bora Village, the start with the sea behind and the Carso ahead. The first stretch climbs decisively toward the limestone ridge: short, direct, and already panoramic after a few steps. With the right pace — the one that lets you talk and look around — the climb goes smoothly and you reach the plateau with warm legs and the Gulf already opening up before you.

The extended start waves give everyone their own space from the very first metre: families with children, those with backpacks, those who prefer to run. The Family Hike starts exactly as it should — with the freedom to choose your own pace.

The Rilke Path: Poetry Terrace on the Adriatic

Climb the cliffs, and the path opens onto the celebrated Rilke Trail: two kilometres suspended between sky and sea, white limestone rock on one side, the Adriatic all the way to Istria on the other. It's the stretch that's remembered. Rilke found the words for his here Duine Elegies in 1912 — the motto of the Bora Race also originates from these cliffs: being here is wonderful. He who walks the path understands why.

The Borgo di Duino: Between the Castle and the Pizza delle Cravatte Rosse

You pass in front of Duino Castle — four hundred years of history on the cliff edge, and the White Lady among the ruins: the rock that legend says was a noblewoman turned to stone. Just beyond is the Cravatte Rosse aid station: hot pizza, smiles, the right moment to catch your breath before the return.

Mount Ermada: Where the Karst Becomes a Mountain

Beyond Duino the trail enters the woods and climbs toward Monte Ermada — Grmada in Slovenian, 323 metres. The Family Hike follows its slopes: no summit, but ups and downs through pine forests, clearings and sudden views over the Gulf, before taking the way back to PortoPiccolo.

The Descent to PortoPiccolo

The route skirts its slopes in the most accessible version, with a smooth and scenic descent back to PortoPiccolo.

Can't find the GPS track?

Use our interactive map (and, when available, those of ITRA): they offer a accurate representation to the centimetre of the route, not downloadable but more than enough to draw your reconnaissance laps.

We often publish rings and sections precisely so that you can test the track yourself before the event.

To avoid inconsistencies and ensure that everyone uses the latest version, the official GPX track is only released once, in the week before the race. In the past, many people would download a track many months in advance and then no longer follow the updates: with any works, detours or temporarily impracticable passages, they risked using a file that was not aligned with the balisage. That is why today we only distribute the GPX close to the event.

In the meantime, we recommend:

  • display previous years' tracks online, useful for training and surveys.
  • consult the interactive map to plan reconnaissance;
  • check our Facebook page and articles on the website for updates and reconnaissance tours;
