The S1 Borderless Trail stands out as one of the most fascinating events of this edition, offering a unique adventure. Starting from the striking Rocca di Monrupino, perched on the border between Italy and Slovenia, this 32.1 km race with 620 meters of elevation gain invites participants on an exclusive journey through two nations in a single step.

This competition runs along a route that literally straddles the border, allowing athletes to have one foot in Italy and one foot in Slovenia, creating an unparalleled running experience. Participants will venture between trail 3, a historic path where Triestine runners have gathered for fifty years for their run along the border on the “Cavalcata Carsica,” circling the hills, and the Skabar trail, which follows a similar route but climbs every small summit, offering new challenges and panoramas.

The course is varied and technically demanding, challenging the mind and body despite the relatively short distance and contained elevation gain. The absence of exposed sections does not diminish the difficulty of the trails, which are often challenging and rocky, testing the tenacity and skill of participants.

The route is divided into two distinct sections: the first 14 km require constant effort, where runners will not encounter roads or refreshment points, requiring careful management of their resources. The second stretch, on the other hand, opens up to a faster and easier route, well supported by support and refreshment services, allowing participants to regain energy and fully enjoy the beauty and hospitality of the territory.

The S1 Borderless Trail is therefore not only a physical but also a strategic test, where the ability to manage one’s own strength and the ability to adapt to a changing terrain will be the key to fully enjoying this unique experience, which traverses enchanting landscapes and unites two countries in a single, unforgettable run.

A mix of dirt roads, never monotonous or repetitive, always with views of the sea or mountains, along with single track trails. The variations in rhythm, the type of terrain, and the scenery make the race always diverse and interesting, never monotonous, always free of technically difficult or exposed sections.

The final stretch goes through the Natural Reserve of the Cliffs of Duino, along the spectacular Rilke Trail, one of the most beautiful and scenic routes in the entire Upper Adriatic, as well as the most enchanting viewpoint on the Gulf of Trieste. The finish, celebrated in grand style for the tenth anniversary, offers a breathtaking view of the gulf and the finish line directly from the wonderful cliffs of the Rilke Trail. Subsequently, the descent brings the participants to sea level, where they will cross the finish line at water level.
