Is the Corsa della Bora a qualifying race for the UTMB Index?
Yes, 5 distances award UTMB Index points: S1 Half Trail 22 km, S1 Borderless Trail 36 km, S1 TransKarst Ultra 55 km, S1 Trieste Ultra 61 km and S1 Bora Ultra 116 km. The S1 Borin 4 km and S1 Family Hike & Trail 14 km distances are not in the UTMB Index circuit.
Does La Corsa della Bora award Running Stones? Is it useful for those looking at the UTMB Index?
La Corsa della Bora does not award Running Stones, but several distances are qualifying races for the UTMB Index and allow athletes to build or update their international sports profile.
For many runners, it's an ideal choice to get started in the world of major ultras: organisation, safety, services, and race structure are aligned with international standards, but the time cut-offs allow for a more progressive approach compared to many races on more selective circuits. It's suitable for those who want to run fast, as well as for those who have the technical ability for a long distance but prefer to manage it with more leeway.
Running in the Karst in January means starting the season with a real, recognised, international, and well-organised race, without having to immediately enter the pressure of more intense circuits.
What is the spirit of the event and how does it relate to the major international circuits?
La Corsa della Bora is an independent race, but it's not opposed to major circuits. We recognise the value of the work done by organisations like UTMB World Series, ITRA and other international circuits: they have helped to grow trail running, define common standards and make the global calendar more readable for athletes and organisers.
At the same time, La Corsa della Bora maintains strong organisational independence. This allows us to build an event with a territorial identity, linked to the Karst region, Trieste and Friuli Venezia Giulia, while keeping entry fees competitive and maintaining high quality standards.
Major circuits have their own structures, services and costs, inevitably reflected in the final price of events. The Corsa della Bora, organised by a non-profit sporting association and supported by public bodies, reinvests its work in the quality of the event, the promotion of sport and the enhancement of the territory.
Are the races registered on ITRA?
Yes, all competitive races of the Corsa della Bora are registered with ITRA (International Trail Running Association) and award Performance Index points valid for UTMB qualifications. The S1 Family Hike & Trail 14 km is also registered with ITRA.
