Can't find the GPS track?

Use our interactive map (and, when available, those of ITRA): they offer a accurate representation to the centimetre of the route, not downloadable but more than enough to draw your reconnaissance laps.

We often publish rings and sections precisely so that you can test the track yourself before the event.

To avoid inconsistencies and ensure that everyone uses the latest version, the official GPX track is only released once, in the week before the race. In the past, many people would download a track many months in advance and then no longer follow the updates: with any works, detours or temporarily impracticable passages, they risked using a file that was not aligned with the balisage. That is why today we only distribute the GPX close to the event.

In the meantime, we recommend:

  • display previous years' tracks online, useful for training and surveys.
  • consult the interactive map to plan reconnaissance;
  • check our Facebook page and articles on the website for updates and reconnaissance tours;

CAI trail network

This course follows the CAI trails of the Karst

The race alternates trails from the CAI FVG registry — Sector 0, Karst — with connecting sections of its own, marked by the organisation.

  • CAI 001
  • CAI 001a · Sentiero del Mitreo
  • CAI 033
  • CAI 008

The route

The same start as the long races, from the Bora Village at PortoPiccolo — but with no hurry at all to reach the top. You climb to the Karst edge at your own pace, and then walk the Sentiero Rilke: two kilometres between white rock and the Adriatic, with a view that on clear days reaches as far as Istria.

At Duino there are the castle and the White Lady, the rock shaped like a veiled woman: a legend that is easy to tell a child. Then the woods, the lower slopes of Monte Ermada, the return through Visogliano and the descent to the sea. The same finish line, the same party and the same medal as the other races of the day.

It is the Corsa della Bora for those who want to experience it on foot, as a family.

Who is this route for

The S1 Family Hike & Trail is designed for those who want to experience La Corsa della Bora without chasing a personal best: families with children, those who enjoy walking for hours, and first-time trail runners looking for a genuine introduction to the Karst region, without technical sections or significant inclines to contend with.

Without a medical certificate. No health requirements to participate: the S1 Family Hike & Trail has no ranking and is open to anyone, including walkers.

Dogs allowed. On leash, as in the non-competitive S1 Borin and S1 Half Trail (start together, 10:00 AM) — not in any other distance of La Corsa della Bora.

Free for under 16s. The entry fee is not required for this age group; however, registration is still necessary to receive your race number and medal at the finish line.

Fast hiking is the ideal way, not a fallback. At a sustained walking pace (around 5 km/h), the 14.5 km can be covered in approximately 2 hours and 54 minutes, well within the maximum time of 5 hours and the Visogliano checkpoint (2:45 PM). Those walking continuously, without excessively long breaks at aid stations, have nothing to fear from the checkpoints.

A shorter step, staying in La Corsa della Bora. For those looking for something even shorter at the same event, the S1 Borin (4 km) is the most accessible distance of the event, starting at the same time (10:00) and finishing at the same place.

Sister races — band ≤14 km. In terms of physical commitment, the S1 Family Hike & Trail is the longest distance and the benchmark of the ≤14 km range for the group's event family: Sardonzin (7 km) on sardon.run; Grego (8 km) and Valbruna (10 km) of Alpe Adria Ultra Trail, Winter edition; Oitzinger (12 km) of Alpe Adria Ultra Trail, Summer edition. 1:1 pairings are not offered, but the entire range as equally valid alternatives for those seeking an equivalent experience at another event within the group (name only, no direct links).

Do you want to walk the S1 Family Hike & Trail routes outside of the race weekend too? The guide Trail Running in Trieste collects paths in the Karst region that are accessible all year round.
