Park 97 is a Great War trail inaugurated in the summer of 2017 in the Bosco Fornace di Prosecco (Municipality of Trieste), on the edge of the Karst not far from the famous Miramare Castle. The testimonies and remains visible today (thanks to the interventions of the Committee for the Separate Administration of the Civic Assets of Prosecco) are very special compared to other open-air museums in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Here, in fact, one does not find trenches, fortifications and other military structures built during the conflict (or in the period immediately preceding the outbreak of war), but rather a whole series of infrastructures built for the training of soldiers.
The area was designed in the second part of the 19th century and expanded during the Great War with the construction of two trenches. The very name of the park refers to the 97th Imperial Regiment of Austria-Hungary, made up of men from the then Küstenland (Litoral), i.e. Trieste, Istria and what was then Austrian Friuli. Thus here those who were enrolled in the 97th I.R. Regiment (but later the camp was also used by the I.R. 20th Hunters' Battalion of the Littoral and Carniola and the I.R. 5th Territorial Defence Infantry Regiment Trieste) learned the combat techniques of the time and the use of weapons. THE 28 May 2021 The trail restoration and forest maintenance site on Mount Kraviak is scheduled to close after almost a year of work. A very important intervention for the benefit of all hikers, runners and Karst lovers.
The works were carried out within the framework of the Rural Development Plan 2014 - 2020 Region FVG Measure 8 - Int. 8.5.1. With a forest improvement consisting in the selective elimination of diseased or malformed individuals of Black Pine and reforestation works with autochthonous tree subjects: Black Hornbeam, Downy Oak and Field Maple.
In addition, considerable maintenance and adaptation work was carried out on the existing footpaths.
ASD SentieroUNO would like to organise a non-competitive walk of 12 and 6 km, suitable for all families and with the intention of highlighting both the maintenance and restoration work that has just been carried out and the works of Park 97, as well as raising awareness among participants of correct behaviour in nature in terms of safety and respect for the environment. Special attention will be paid to new practices to be kept in mind in pandemic times, such as respecting distances, precedence and good environmental protection practices.

The route follows the existing footpath, partly following the Alpe Adria Trail, partly the thematic trail and partly offering new views of the Vitovska vineyards overlooking Miramare Castle.
The routes will be marked with fabric ribbons and signs.
We would like to thank the Jus Comunella the Municipality of Prosek - Prosecco, the Municipality of Križ - S. Croce, the Committee for the Separate Administration of the Civic Assets of Prosecco and the Municipality of Trieste and PromoTurismoFVG for their great commitment over the years to preserving and enhancing one of the most beautiful stretches of the Trieste Karst ridge.
