Pandemics, tampons, vaccines, greenpasses and now winds of war. These are years of great concern in the world, in which the light-heartedness we used to have when we went running is increasingly distant. We have resisted these years with two editions during the two peaks of the pandemic, one of which was in the orange zone and semi lockdown. The focus has always been on safety, but also on trying to ensure normality or at least a non-oppressive atmosphere.
Over the years, at our trail race, but also as a competitor at other races, the phrase I heard most was: 'nice, well organised, but there is not the spirit of the past'. Add to this the fact that between 2022 and 2023 the prices will have to be raised, and not just a little: transport, security, services and race package. Everything goes up. Often doubled.
Dear friends, it is impossible to give quality and professionalism if you do not almost double the prices. You can't keep up with the costs. If you pay little, even if there is the work of volunteers and sponsors behind it, you cannot expect to have quality and safety. It is like expecting to eat good fish in the city at low prices. You cannot. Not even if a restaurateur puts his whole heart into it and puts in enough margin to make a living without getting rich.
These conditions made me think about no longer organising La Corsa della Bora.
I fought to do it even in prohibitive conditions, I treated this race like a son, I expelled competitors who were disrespectful of the work of the volunteers, I reimbursed and left at home before the race those competitors who I considered to have entered without having the requirements. I treated this competition like a business that must produce an income and redistribute the fruits of labour in more service and quality the following year. All the volunteers and the S1 team stood by me in these choices and with them we faced even the hardest moments with a smile and united.
The public bodies supported us, in particular AICS, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, PromoTurismo FVG, the municipalities of Trieste, Duino Aurisina and PortoPiccolo, but also all the other bodies involved.
Our ASD right now could decide whether to reinvest in equipment and services for members, or to put everything, down to the last penny and effort into a race that is a dream. Everything.
One last dream, the eighth year of competition and the third under the pressure of a changing world. A dream to dream again on the trails.
An eighth year that could be the last year of La Corsa della Bora or a new world beginning with completely new economic and social dynamics.
Hence a dreamy, serene, non-vibrant image.
A thought of peace, of running in the company of loved ones towards a rosy future.
An image from the past, with a hope for the future.
An atmosphere that lulls reassuringly and the adrenalin rush of the icy Bora wind that gives us the energy to look ahead.
A future that perhaps no one expected but could also be, finally, better than we expect.
In concrete terms, here are the 2023 novelties in brief:
- Prices locked until 2020 for those who register NOW by paying a deposit of 5 euros and with time to pay up until 30 October 2022
- Confirmed arrival at PortoPiccolo, with increased space and further expansion of the refreshment service for runners.
- New non-competitive distances for the whole family.
- New route of the 164 km, with deviation gates: if you do not arrive in time at the two main gates, your race becomes an ITRA-certified 90 or 130.
- Start from Piazza Unità for the 32 and 42 K
- Race package and services as in previous years, without any cuts.
- Price update edition 2023 on 1 September 2022, according to market conditions, for all members from after 1 September.
In the spirit of dream and hope, we want to set goals, we want to believe in the future and we want you to do so too. We therefore give away registration for long races (above 42K) to those who have the dream of an ultra but could not afford it financially. Conditions of participation at the bottom.
We will unveil the new features listed above and many more as the months go by. Registration is now open and the site updated.
We have faced what we thought was the worst. We are ready to start again, with you, full of hope for a rosy future. We do not say 'everything will be all right', but running on the Karst we shout 'Being here is wonderful'.
